Work on a $240 million upgrade of Eden Park for the 2011 Rugby World Cup has begun in earnest.
Salvage teams moved in and began dismantling parts of the south stand of the stadium following the All Blacks' win against the Wallabies there on Saturday.
The stadium's plastic seating will go to Rowing New Zealand for use at Lake Karapiro, and lights are being moved to Counties Manukau rugby.
There will be six weeks of demolition work, and preparations have been made to redirect power, sewerage and telecommunication lines away from the site.
The new stand will seat 22,000 people and include corporate boxes and new facilities for players and the media.
It is expected to be ready by the end of 2010.
