Transpower has 233 projects which could be advanced under streamlined rules for approving electricity schemes.
The national grid operator says schemes including replacing transformers or the wires themselves could be hastened.
Its comments follow a draft Government Policy Statement on the electricity industry.
This would require the Electricity Commission to effectively rubber stamp projects costing under $20 million.

But Transpower says it has 233 other projects which could now move faster.
The proposed policy changes are subject to submissions before they become binding.
