A person has died and two others have been seriously injured after a car crash in Hauraki District this afternoon.
The police say the crash happened on State Highway 27 at Mangatarata near Thames after 4pm.
They say before the crash a patrol car was alerted to the way a vehicle was being driven.
The police car turned around in order to stop the vehicle and immediately came across the car crashed off the road.
The Serious Crash Unit has been examining the scene.
