Bigger pay packets are on the way for the leaders of some Maori higher education institutes.
The head of Te Wananga o Aotearoa can now be paid up to $400,000, up from a maximum of $280,000, figures from the State Services Commission show.
The salary cap for the chief executive of Whakatane's Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi has increased $130,000 to $330,000, while Otaki's Te Wananga o Raukawa has the smallest increase, climbing just $10,000 to $200,000.
But the salaries are still smaller than what the vice-chancellors of the big mainstream metropolitan universities get.
Elsewhere in the Maori government sector, the salary stays static at $180,000 for the chief executives of Maori broadcaster Te Mangai Paho and Te Taura Whiri i Te Reo - the Maori Language Commission.
