The New Zealand cricketers have received a much needed confidence boost, convincingly beating India just a few days out from their opening Champions Trophy one day match, against hosts South Africa.

Skipper Dan Vettori, had called for an end to the inconsistent top-order batting that saw them eliminated from the recent tri series in Sri Lanka.

Neil Broom top scored 66 from 46 balls, while Jesse Ryder and Martin Guptill also made half centuries with Vettori, Shane Bond and Jacob Oram each taking two wickets each.

Guptill says the win is just what they needed ahead of Thursday's tournament opender particularly after they lost lost their first warm up match and coming off the recent tri series in Sri Lanka where they failed to win a game.
