An Auckland disability organisation believes it has broken the world record for a moving line of people in wheelchairs.
To celebrate the United Nation’s International Day of Persons with a Disability, The Cube held a ‘festival of good ideas’, at which they attempted the record.
The organisation, which supports young people with disabilities, says 247 people in wheelchairs moved together in a single line, for two minutes, around the Mt Smart Stadium’s athletics track, smashing the previous record of 193 previously set by the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation in Los Angeles.
The record still has to be verified, but organisers say they had about 50 more people in line than the previous record.
Spokesperson Josh Fuimaono says they are thrilled to have broken the record. “It’s demonstrated that people with disabilities are motivated and have something to give others.”
