The government will spend $820,000 on maintaining cycle trails around the country.

The spending includes storm damage repairs, trail surface improvements, weed control and installation of signage.
Tourism Minister Kelvin Davis said most people using the Great Rides of Nga Haerenga (the national cycle trail) were New Zealanders and the trails were big drawcards for domestic tourism.
About 220,000 international visitors per year cycle and they were high-value, spending about $1000 more than the average visitor, he said.
They also stayed longer and visited more regions.
