Sam's Take - What would it be like to discover your entire life was a lie?
Free Guy, directed by Shawn Levy, stars Reynolds as Guy, a non-playable character in a video game. His entire life changes when he meets Millie, discovering who he is and taking steps to become the hero in a story that isn't programmed to be his.
It's mixed with elements of The Truman Show, The Lego Movie and Scott Pilgrim. The movie takes some big swings, and most of them connect, Sam says, and the movie has a great dazzling visual style.
Waititi's video game creator Antwan is a good representation of "stupid game publishers" who push their workers too hard but his character is also the nexus for a lot of the movie's plot holes and sometimes lazy writing.
