Job advertisements have notched another gain with most areas in expansion.
ANZ's job ads index climbed a seasonally adjusted 1.7 percent rise last month, after a 3 percent rise in March.
It marks the third consecutive monthly rise, with gains in online advertising, but newspapers fell nearly 13 percent.
ANZ Bank senior economist Sharon Zollner said the labour market was holding up well.
"It is a question of when, not if, this flows into an acceleration in wage growth," she said.
Sharon Zollner said newspaper advertisements continued to lose market share to online.
"You can type in what you are looking for, you can set up a regular search and can get emailed the results, it is all a lot more efficient," she said.
