Heavy rain expected in far north Queensland

Heavy rain is expected in far north Queensland this weekend.

Emergency Management Queensland says there could be flash flooding around Cairns including Mossman Gorge, Josephine Falls, Babinda Boulders and Granite Creek.

The ABC reports five people have died in floodwaters in Queensland since the start of the year, including two children who drowned on private properties in the past week.

More than 30 people have been rescued in other incidents.
