A 21-year-old man in New Caledonia has been charged with murdering his 18-year-old girlfriend.
Her body was discovered in the bush near Noumea 10 days ago.
A statement by the prosecution said the suspect inflicted knife wounds on himself when police approached him, prompting the officers to taser him.
It said since his detention he has been in hospital where he was questioned days later and where he admitted to the crime.
It was the second murder of a woman in New Caledonia this year.
The group Women in Anger has called for a silent march to Congress on Thursday.
This comes after it denounced the deafening silence of the authorities in the face of a very serious situation.
