A380 planes ordered by HKA

07:07 am on 8 January 2012

Hong Kong Airlines has placed an order for 10 Airbus A380 aircraft worth about $US3.8 billion at list prices.

The BBC reports the order risked being derailed by a dispute between the European Union and China.

Beijing opposes the EU's carbon emissions trading scheme, which would involve airlines paying additional costs.

HKA now says the order would go ahead. A formal announcement of the contract is due on 17 January.

HKA previously ordered Airbus A330s, which will be used for services between Hong Kong and several European cities.

The BBC reports the contract will take Airbus's order backlog to 188.
