Investigative authorities had decided to keep holding the two men from the Netherlands and one from Poland as their probe continued, La Depeche de Tahiti reported.

Their yacht was caught in the Marquesas Islands with almost 500 kilogrammes of cocaine but the trio insisted it was unaware of the drugs being onboard.

They claimed to have been paid a wage to sail the boat from South America across the Pacific, presumably to Australia.

One of the suspects told investigators that their final destination was Singapore, the report said.

One of the Dutch men claimed he was threatened by the Pole and wanted to be transferred and tried in France.
