French Polynesian island experiments with new social order

15:04 pm on 30 May 2017

The floating island planned for French Polynesia is a chance to tackle global warming without politicians, according to a scholar working on the project.

Nathalie Mezza-Garcia is researching the project which will involve a self contained community on man made structures off Tahiti.

It's a joint project between the Silicon Valley-based Seasteading Institute and the French Polynesian government.

Ms Mezza-Garcia told Sally Round the planned city is an experiment in how a community can organise itself without central control.
