A man attacked outside Wellington's Te Papa on Saturday night has died in hospital.
Police said the inquiry into the incident had now been upgraded to a homicide investigation.
A 28-year-old-man had previously been charged with wounding with intent to injure in relation to the assault.
Detective Sergeant Andrew Compton said police were not seeking anyone else.
The victim's life support system was turned off today, police said.
Compton said a decision on whether to file further charges had not yet been made.
Police still want to hear from anyone who saw the assault near Te Papa on Saturday night.
