Former RSA head in court over medals

13:33 pm on 14 March 2012

Former Otaki Returned and Services Association president Donald Moselen has appeared in court in Levin charged with fraud and with wearing medals to which he was not entitled.

Mr Moselen is accused of using the Otaki RSA chequebook dishonestly.

He is also alleged to have worn medals he did not earn on ANZAC day parades in 2007 and 2011.

The medals were the New Zealand Operational Service Medal, the Vietnam Medal and the New Zealand General Service Medal.

Mr Moselen entered no plea and has been remanded on bail to appear again on 11 April.

The branch's acting president, Phyllis Miles, says Mr Moselen's membership will be reviewed if he's found guilty.

She says there is some anger in the community about the issue.
