The Police Minister says patched gang members should not be able to get a gun licence.
People currently applying for gun licences have to show they are a fit and proper person to own a gun, but gang members are not automatically excluded.
Speaking on TVNZ's Q and A programme, Police Minister Judith Collins said gang members were increasingly involved in drugs and crime and a law change was needed.
She said gang members should not be regarded as fit and proper people to hold a firearms licence.
