Seven police officers charged in Fiji

Seven police officers in Fiji have been charged with conspiracy to defeat the course of justice.

The director of public prosecutions, Christopher Pryde, announced the charges this morning ahead of an initial court appearance in Suva.

The accused are Solomone Nute, Salacieli Tabalailai, Marika Iranasau, Koroi Lakokilepanoni, Vilikesa Baledruma, Elizabeth Sautu and Romeo Nasila, who are all based in Kadavu.

The officers are accused of conspiring to make a false statement in relation to a traffic investigation at the Kadavu police station.

Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili granted them bail until their next appearance on 31 March.
