Rangitikei iwi promotes tribal database

22:31 pm on 23 May 2013

A tribe just south of Whanganui - Ngati Apa, is trying to boost its database of iwi members.

The Rangitikei iwi is only a small tribe and many of its people live outside the tribal district.

Ngati Apa business people are currently looking at converting some of the forestry land that the iwi owns into highly productive pasture or cropping land.

The tribe is also continuing to look at commercial property investment opportunities following the investment last year into the Trafalgar Square Shopping Mall in Whanganui.

The runanga is investigating to see if it can invest directly into businesses that have strong business cases and are prudent investments.

It is also focussed on the priority areas of growing the value of the iwi asset base, and increasing annual income and distributions.

The Ngati Apa database will be used to keep iwi members abreast about any further developments.
