PNG shops selling expired food could be forced to close

Authorities in Papua New Guinea are warning shop owners not to put their customers health at risk by sell expired food not fit for human consumption.

An Environmental Health Officer Sila Johnathan said shops will be closely monitored with routine inspections to make sure owners comply with the law.

Earlier this week Officers from the National Capital District Commission raided a shop removing canned fish and sausages well past their use by dates or in dented cans.

Owners are being warned if such practices continue their shops could be forced to close.
