A police officer is in hospital after a smoke canister was let off in South Auckland this afternoon.
Police were responding to a complaint about a large number of window washers at the intersection of Cavendish Drive and Te Irirangi Drive in Manukau, about 3pm.
A smoke canister was thrown onto the road and an officer had to be taken to Middlemore Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, they said.
Police are asking for anyone who has information about the incident to get in touch.
