Jakarta monsoon flooding eases

12:33 pm on 19 January 2013

Severe floods in Jakarta eased on Friday, after unusually heavy monsoon rains swamped parts of the capital the day before.

However, more rain is forecast. Six people died on Thursday and main roads in the city were still full of water and choked with traffic on Friday.

Large parts of the city were still without electricity and military trucks ferried people to their offices.

A state of emergency is in force until 27 January.
