Jack Dixon was washed away during a trip to Shelley Beach with his grandmother, aunt and three cousins on 2 October.

Inspector Karl Wright-St Clair, of Western Bay of Plenty, said today an extensive search on the foreshore and at sea has failed to find any trace of the boy.

Mr Wright-St Clair said the difficult decision to suspend the search was made in consultation with the family.
