Ferrari's Massa heads to Miami for more tests

08:17 am on 26 August 2009

Brazilian Formula One driver Felipe Massa will undergo tests in Miami this week as part of his recovery from head injuries he sustained in a Hungarian Gran Prix qualifying crash a month ago.

The official F1 website says Massa will be examined by the chief doctor of the US-based CART series, Steve Olvey.

The Brazilian, who has been convalescing in Sao Paulo after surgery in Hungary for skull fractures, says he watched Sunday's European Grand Prix in Valencia on television at home with his wife.

Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen, who finished third, wore a helmet bearing get-well wishes to Massa during the race.

Although the Brazilian says he is keen to get back to racing as early as October, his team has given no date for his return.

Retired champion Michael Schumacher had initially been announced as Massa's temporary replacement at Ferrari, but ended up pulling out because of an old neck injury.
