Second private school deregistered

The Qualifications Authority has deregistered a second private school - the City Language Academy in Auckland.

The authority began investigating the school when it appeared to be falsely advertising that it was accredited to provide approved courses.

The training establishment had also failed to notify the Qualifications Authority (NZQA) of changes to its governance.

It was later found to be wrongly enrolling foreign students.

NZQA did not receive any appeal against the decision from the school.

The authority says the academy's director was the same person identified in a television programme last year showing the sale of a false business diploma.

The school involved in that case, the Academy of Studies, had its registration cancelled last month.

NZQA deputy chief executive for quality assurance, Tim Fowler, says the authority will not tolerate illegal or inappropriate behaviour.
