Teacher facing another 23 sex abuse charges

15:47 pm on 12 November 2012

A Far North teacher is facing 23 new child sex abuse charges, involving eight boys, including four counts of sexual violation.

The new charges may delay the sentencing of James Parker, who was deputy principal at Pamapuria School in Kaitaia, on 49 charges that he admitted to earlier.

Those charges involve indecent assault and unlawful sexual connection with a dozen boys aged 11 to 13.

The new charges cover boys aged between 10 and 16.

The majority of them cover the period from 2006 to 2012. Two charges laid under section 140A of the Crimes Act 1961 relate to offences in 1999.

Parker, a Year 7 and 8 teacher at Pamapuria School, also taught at Oturu School and Awanui School more than a decade ago.

Police say they have received no sex abuse complaints about Parker from Oturu School or Awanui School.

Parker, 37, will appear in court on Thursday.
