The Asian Development Bank has approved a $US6 million grant to Tuvalu for renewable energy.
The bank said the grant would improve the climate resilience of Tuvalu's energy sector and reduce the country's reliance on fossil fuels.
Its aim is to increase the proportion of electricity generated from renewable sources on Funafuti from 15 to 32 percent, and on Tuvalu's outer islands from about 70 to over 90 percent.
The grant will fund the installation of rooftop solar panels and battery storage systems as well as ground-mounted, solar panels in the outer islands.
