Man charged with murder over fatal shooting of teen

Police have charged two men, one with murder, over the fatal shooting of a teen on New Year's Day.

Officers were called after a 19-year-old was shot while in a vehicle in Addington Ave in Manurewa at 3.20am. He was taken to hospital, where he died.

A 17-year-old male was also critically hurt after also being shot.

Detective Senior Sergeant Rob Hunkin, from the Counties Manukau CIB, said officers investigating the incident on Wednesday had arrested two people believed to be involved.

"A 19-year-old male has been arrested and charged with murder, wounding with intent, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

"Additionally, an 18-year-old male has also been arrested in relation to the matter, and has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm."

Both men are due to appear in the Manukau District Court on Wednesday.

An interim non-publication order is in place regarding the identity of the victim.

Detective Senior Sergeant Hunkin said inquiries were continuing and there might be further arrests or charges.

"We are continuing to appeal to the public for any information which may assist us with our investigation."
