A person has been taken to hospital in a critical condition following an incident at a central Auckland hotel.
There was a heavy police presence outside the Quest Hotel on Queen Street on Saturday morning.
Police went to the scene after a report at 10.20am after reports a man had fallen from a balcony, they said in a statement.
St John said it transported one person in a critical condition to Auckland City Hospital's emergency department.
By Saturday afternoon, police said the man was "in a critical but stable condition".
"Police are trying to piece together the circumstances leading to the man falling."
