Test hopefuls state their cases in Canberra

06:34 am on 21 December 2011

Two first test hopefuls have stated their cases for the Boxing Day Cricket test with centuries in the Indian cricket team's warmup match against a Chairmans Eleven in Canberra.

The 23 year old Indian Virat Kohli, widely regarded as the game's next superstar, struck a commanding 132 against the Chairman's XI, and he looks set to bat at number six behind four all time great Indian test batsmen.

And the Australian opener Ed Cowan is threatening to replace the embattled Phil Hughes having scored a century for the Chairmans Eleven, following up a century against the Black Caps in Queensland last month.

The Australian team will be named today.
