Weekend rains in New Caledonia and French Polynesia have been record-breaking, says Meteo France.
In Goro, in the south of New Caledonia's main island, more than 385mm of rain was measured in a six-hour period which is the most intense fall ever recorded there.
There were also 136,000 lightning strikes registered over three days.
In French Polynesia, Saturday's downpour in Tahiti and Moorea amounted to the usual monthly rainfall.
Papeete received 400 mm in a day.
