One of the two vehicles involved in the crash that caused a major South Island highway to close was a police vehicle.
State Highway 8's Omarama-Lindis Pass Road was shut from late this morning following the crash north of the Waitaki town of Omarama.
The incident at the intersection with Short Cut Road resulted in minor injuries, police said.
The road has now reopened but there was expected to still be some congestion as traffic cleared.
The Serious Crash Unit is investigating.
