The selection process for a Labour candidate for the Mt Albert electorate is under way, with the call going out on Monday for nominations.
A by-election will be held in the Auckland seat to replace the current MP and former prime minister, Helen Clark, who's about to take up a new job in New York as head of the United Nations Development Programme.
Labour Party president Andrew Little says interest in the by-election is intense, with a number of high-calibre potential candidates having already come forward.
Nominations close in two and a half weeks' time.
