French Polynesia's Tuheiava joins French nuke compo law talks

The French Polynesian senator of Tahiti's pro-independence camp, Richard Tuheiava, is to join the Paris talks to prepare a French law which will for the first time consider a link between France's nuclear weapons tests and cancer.

Mr Tuheiava was not invited by the commission examining the project but according to the Tahitipresse news agency, he has been invited to join the Socialist commission members.

The project has drawn a lot of criticism over the level of radiation exposure which could be considered for compensation.

A member of a French veterans' organisation has told RFO radio that it is scandalous that the levels proposed for some conditions are so high that nobody will ever be able to get compensation.
