Sir Mark Todd has had to relinquish the elder statesman title in the New Zealand Olympic team.
In naming the five strong equestrian team for Rio the New Zealand Olympic Committee believed the 60-year-old Todd would become the oldest New Zealand athlete to compete at a Games.
However the NZOC said it now appears 62-year-old dressage rider Julie Brougham had pipped Todd in the age stakes.
Brougham admits she had tried to keep her age quiet "but hey now I'm Olympian I may as well embrace it."
Todd said he "did quite enjoy being the elder statesman of the team, but am happy to concede."
Todd will however become New Zealand's most capped Olympian when he competes in Rio in what will be his eighth Olympics.
Kereyn Smith, the chief executive of the New Zealand Olympic team said women are already looking like the dominant force in the New ZealandTeam.
"Athlete numbers are swaying for the first time towards the women in our team," she said.
"While Mark may still be our most capped Olympian, it's great to see a female athlete take over the coveted 'most senior' spot. Gender balance is really having a positive impact within our Team."
