The Bougainville Government is about to start repossessing government assets in Arawa as it strives to restore services in the autonomous Papua New Guinea region.

Arawa was the provincial capital until the civil war broke out, forcing the government to move to Buka and abandon their properties. Many are now occupied by squatters.
President Ishmael Toroama wants to improve the delivery of services for people in south and central Bougainville, who at present are forced to travel to Buka.
He says before the government can establish offices in Arawa, residents in the township must start releasing assets back to the ABG.

Mr Toroama says people need to help ensure growth that fosters stability and good order. He says law and order will be a key factor in making Arawa attractive for investment.
Last week the president re-opened offices for a law and justice office complex there.
This means permanent access to Corrections and Public Solicitor services, and the Department of Justice and Legal Services.
