Sarah Palin's husband has condemned ''disgusting lies'' contained in a biography of his wife due to be released next week.

The Rogue: The Search for Sarah Palin, a book by Joe McGinniss, alleges Mrs Palin had an affair in the 1990s, and has used cocaine.

It also claims the former Alaskan governor had a one-night stand with US basketball star Glen Rice.

The BBC reports the writer moved into a house next door to the Palins in 2010.

The move prompted Mrs Palin to erect a fence between the houses to protect her privacy after news that he had signed a book deal.

Mrs Palin, a potential 2012 presidential contender for the Republican party, has not yet commented on the claims.

Excerpts from the book were first published in the National Enquirer.

In a statement, Todd Palin said the book was full of "lies" and "smears" and accused Mr McGinniss of being obsessed with his wife, according to ABC News. He says the author is obsessed with his wife.

The BBC reports Mr McGinniss is known for his 1968 book on Richard Nixon, The Selling of the President.
