Samuel Gray and Pamela Kalepo have pleaded not guilty to kidnapping and disfiguring the woman with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in March last year.

They are on trial at the High Court in Wellington.

At the trial today, the woman who has name suppression, became visibly upset and had to step out of the court after viewing a photo booklet.

She was asked to look at photos of the severed finger, along with a Wellington beach, and the houses across where the ordeal happened.

A video interview with the woman was also played to the jury.

In it the woman said a large chain was used to tie her up, along with a blanket.

She described being taken to another house where she was punched and her hair burned.

In the interview, she said she was "ready to give up".

The woman said she was kept in a car for 14 hours during the ordeal, before she escaped after several days.

The court heard she ran to a hotel on Cuba St where police were phoned and she was taken to hospital.

The trial is expected to last up to two weeks.
