Charges against Fiji police officers dropped over commissioner removal claim

11:25 am on 30 November 2010

Charges have been dropped against two senior Fiji police officers alleged to have tried to remove the police commissioner from office.

The Fijivillage website says the prosecutor's office has withdrawn the charges against former directors of the police's Special Branch, Rusiate Tuidravu, and Berenando Daveta.

The two officers had been accused of conspiring between the 15th October 2009 to January 2010 to remove the then commissioner Commodore Esala Teleni.

Commodore Teleni resigned as police commissioner in August and is to be Fiji's next ambassador to China.
