Nine parties have gathered fewer than 8,000 votes each in the general election.
They include the Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party, the Alliance, Democrats for Social Credit, the Residents Action Movement, the Workers Party and Libertarianz.
However, one of the country's newest political parties made an impact on Saturday, finishing in the top 10.
The Bill and Ben Party, launched recently by the hosts of the television show Pulp Sport, recorded 10,700 votes.
That is only 8,000 behind Peter Dunne's long-established United Future Party.
