Police investigating a fatal crash in south Canterbury are appealing for information from anyone who saw the accident.
A person was killed and another seriously injured in the crash, involving a car and a truck on State Highway 1's Waimate Highway near Makikihi on Wednesday.
Emergency services, including Fire and Emergency, were called to the crash at about 6.05am, with one of the vehicles bursting into flames.
One person died at the scene while the injured person was flown to Dunedin Hospital.
The road was closed for several hours.
Police are wanting to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the crash, including anyone who has dashcam footage.
