Morobe governor to sue PNG government over budget allocation

15:50 pm on 7 December 2005

The Morobe Provincial Government plans to sue the National Government of Papua New Guinea over its recent budget allocation to the province.

The Post Courier newspaper reports that Governor Luther Wenge revealed his intention earlier this week while giving his opening remarks to commemorate the Ombudsman Commission's 30th anniversary in the province.

The paper says the Governor accused the government of failing to meet its obligation to provide sufficient funds to institutions and government departments, provincial governments and state institutions such as the Ombudsman Commission.

Mr Wenge also urged the Ombudsman Commission to take legal action against the state for being allocated insufficient funds in the budget.

He promised the commission that if such an action was taken, his government and the province would support it.
