The Serb world number one hit 24 unforced errors and five double faults in a 6-3 6-3 loss.

Djokovic can still qualify for the last four if he wins his final round-robin match against Alexander Zverev.

However New Zealand's Michael Venus and his doubles partner Australian John Peers are all but out of contention suffering a second straight loss.

The 6th seeds have been beaten 6-2 6-7 12-10 by the seventh seeds Edouard Roger Vasselin and Jurgen Melzer.

It's a result that leaves them needing to the beat top seeds on Saturday and hope other results also go their way if they're to advance to the semis.

Written off by many, the unfancied Maroons charged out to a 14-point lead midway through the second half in Brisbane after debutant hooker Harry Grant scored the third of the home team's three tries.

The Blues surged back within six with eight minutes remaining, before Queensland also had fullback Corey Allan sent to the sin-bin for a professional foul with four minutes to play.

But the visitors were unable to complete the comeback and clinch a third-straight series triumph, a Maroons side who fielded 14 debutants across the three matches hanging on for a famous win.

The victory, secured in front of a world-record post Covid-19 crowd for sport of 49,155, was Queensland's ninth in 12 Origin deciders played in Brisbane.

New South Wales captain James Tedesco was taken from the field after suffering a concussion in the first half, while playmaker Cody Walker was also forced off the field after a head knock late in the match.

Hamilton not that hot on knighthood

British motor-racing star Lewis Hamilton believes he isn't worthy of a knighthood.

The 35-year-old Englishman equalled German driver Michael Schumacher's record of seven Formula One world titles with victory at the Turkish Grand Prix over the weekend.

The achievement has some calling for Hamilton to be awarded one of the country's highest honours but, speaking to Autosport, he has questioned whether he is the right person to receive a knighthood.

"When I think about that honour, I think about people like my granddad who served in the war.

"The people that are running hospitals. The nurses and doctors who are saving lives during the hardest time ever, I think about those unsung heroes and I don't look at myself as an unsung hero.

"I've not saved anybody. It is an incredible honour that a small group of people have had bestowed upon them."

England confirm Pakistan tour

England will visit Pakistan for the first time in 16 years when they play two T20 Internationals in October 2021, the England and Wales Cricket Board has announced.

The short tour will serve as a build-up to the Twenty20 World Cup in India that is scheduled to start the same month, and comes as international cricket returns to Pakistan following an attack on the Sri Lanka team bus in 2009 that killed six policemen and two civilians.

The matches are scheduled for October 14 and 15, both in Karachi.

Pakistan have hosted Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe on home soil since September 2019. Since the bus attack, they had mostly used Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi as home venues.

Meanwhile the ECB also announced the England Women will host New Zealand in one-day and T20 series next year, with dates still to be confirmed.

Doubt lingers over Australian Open

Australia's Victoria state government is confident the Australian Open will go ahead but offered no assurances that players would be allowed to arrive in time for the season-opening ATP Cup and other events in January.

The men's ATP Tour told players on Tuesday that the start of the 2021 season remained up in the air due to "challenges" in Australia, which is effectively closed to international arrivals due to COVID-19 protocols.

Tennis Australia (TA) planned for players and their entourages to arrive in Victoria in mid-December to have time to undertake a mandatory two-week quarantine period before competing in January.

But Victoria premier Daniel Andrews questioned whether players needed to arrive so early and said the government was still working with Tennis Australia on quarantine arrangements.

The Australian Open is scheduled to start January 18 at Melbourne Park but dates for the team-based ATP Cup and other events that lead into the year's first Grand Slam have yet to be fixed.
