Fiji's Home Affairs and Immigration Ministry has made a call for public input to develop the country's first women, peace and security national plan.

The ministry said it wants to "gather your valuable insights" about how it can make Fiji's defence and security sector "more gender-inclusive and responsive".

It said the public submissions is for those who are "passionate about contributing to a safe and secure Fiji for all".

The ministry's permanent secretary Mason Smith said it "is seeking community perspectives" on the main question: How can the Government of Fiji build gender-inclusive peace and security in the nation, region, and world?

The secondary questions include:

  • 1/How can meaningful participation of women, girls, and gender minorities be
  • ensured in Fiji's defence and security sector?

  • 2/What strategies should the Government of Fiji adopt to mainstream gender
  • across national legislation, policies, programmes, and practices in the defence

    and security sector?

  • 3/What are the key challenges hindering gender equality in Fiji's defence and
  • security sector and the service it provides, and how can they be addressed?

  • 4/How can civil society organisations and the public contribute to the
  • implementation and oversight of the WPS NAP?

  • 5/What steps should the Government of Fiji take to ensure that its efforts to
  • advance the WPS agenda are durable?

The ministry said it is accepting written submissions addressing these questions and any other issues that stakeholders believe should be considered.
