21:06 pm on 15 February 2013

A new report has highlighted a sharp rise in the number of journalists killed and jailed around the world.

The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists says 70 reporters died in the line of duty last year, and more than 230 were sent to prison.

Many who died were in combat zones in Syria, but most were local journalists murdered for their reports on crime and corruption.

The campaign group said the killings were being carried out with impunity and were putting press freedom at risk.
