Dame Meg Taylor who is also the Pacific Ocean Commissioner is appealing to children and young people to get to know the seas around them, and take steps to protect marine resources from damaging human activity.

She said plastic makes up 90 percent of visible debris in the Pacific but the ocean also includes invisible pollutants such as sewage, fertilizer runoff and nuclear waste from the past.

Speaking on 'World Oceans Day' Dame Meg encourages everyone throughout the Pacific to support environmental protection and conservation efforts and to advocate for positive action in their communities.
