The Council of the University of the South Pacific says it supports an investigation currently being undertaken by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption.
The commission is investigating after documents were published by magazine Islands Business that raised questions over staff appointments at the university.
At a meeting this week in Suva, the council unanimously resolved that a separate independent investigation would also be conducted on its behalf.
The council says it will provide further updates in due course.
"The University remains committed to its vision of achieving excellence and innovation for the sustainable development of Pacific Islands countries and people," the council said.
