PNG MP has charges over misusing Gaming Board funds dropped

17:04 pm on 9 January 2003

Criminal charges brought against Nuku MP Andrew Kumbakor over allegations he misused nearly 13-thousand US dollars belonging to the National Gaming Control Board have been dismissed by a court in Papua New Guinea.

Mr Kumbakor now wants the Ombudsman Commission to drop misconduct charges brought against him relating to the same complaints.

A Committal court dismissed two charges arising from the spending of Board money in 1999, ruling that there was not enough evidence to commit Mr Kumbakor to stand trial in the National Court.
