The English Premier League team led 3-0 at half-time with goals from Siem De Jong, Emmanuel Riviere and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.

Adam Armstrong added the fourth with nine minutes to play.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew was happy with their performance, especially a couple of his new guys up front.

Pardew says they struggled on attack last season and so this was a good performance by his strikers.

Newcastle's next match is against the Phoenix on Saturday. The Phoenix play West Ham in Auckland Wednesday night.

Despite the result, the Sydney coach Graham Arnold was happy with his side's efforts. He says it's a good lesson for his side that has only just come together, against a quality EPL team that is just a couple of weeks away from starting their season.
