The Federated States of Micronesia is assessing the damage from a slow moving storm, just over a month after deadly Typhoon Maysak struck the islands.

Last month 5 people died during Maysak, 29,000 people were affected and 90 percent of food crops in Yap and Chuuk were destroyed along with 281 homes.

Typhoon Noul has spent close to an entire night and morning lashing Yap and Utili with tropical storm force winds.

The Director of FSM's Emergency Management Office, Andrew Yatilman, says a full assessement of the latest damage is still to be completed but he expects already vulnerable areas to have been impacted

"We know that while it was only tropical storm force winds it actually became a typhoon as it was just passing Yap. The length of time that they were experiencing tropical storm force winds, that would have created a lot of damage too."
